



Chicopee, Mass. -- September 30, 2009 -- Thomas Sangeloty fired a round of 79 to lead the Springfield College men's golf team to a fifth place finish at the Blazers Invitational at the Chicopee Country Club earlier today. The sophomore from Unionville, Conn. finished tied for fifth as an individual with his 42-37=79.The course played at 6,742 yards at a par-71.
Westfield State won the team title with a score 319, followed by Rhode Island College (329), Anna Maria and Franklin Pierce (331), and Springfield (334). The rest of the field finished as follows: Becker (336), MCLA (350), host Elms (364), Emmanuel and Mitchell (367), Newbury (375), and Daniel Webster (383).
Nate McNamara of Anna Maria was the medalist on the day with his one-over par score of 72. Derek Robichaud of Westfield State (74) was two strokes back. Bobby Greggerson of Franklin Pierce was third among individuals with a score of 77.
For Springfield, sophomore Jared Slingerland (Berwick, Maine) finished next among the Pride with an 83. He tied for 13th. Senior co-captain J.R. Balogun (Springfield, Mass.) was 17th with his 84. Freshman Ryne McEvoy (Accord, N.Y.) tied for 30th with an 88. And sophomore Pat Marra (Mechanicville, N.Y.) finished tied for 34th with an 89.
Up next this Saturday and Sunday (Oct. 3-4), Springfield will play at the ECACs at the Tunxis Golf Club in Farmington, Conn.
