Early Storm Results in Postponement of Baseball Reunion to Nov. 2-3, 2012 On Oct. 28, a large portion of the Northeast was hit by an early and destructive snowstorm. Heavy snow took down power lines, resulting in widespread power outages that, in many areas, are still unresolved. Communities surrounding the Springfield College campus are still entirely without power and water.
Despite many downed trees and other storm-related issues, Springfield College students are safe and warm, and classes are being held. Because we do not want to disrupt the power restoration and tree removal efforts in the city, however, we are postponing the Baseball Reunion for this weekend. Read More. |
Schmaltz Named Capital One First Team Academic All-District Springfield, Mass. -- May 6, 2011 -- John Schmaltz of the Springfield College baseball team has been named a Capital One First Team Academic All-District player for the 2011 season. Baseball Concludes Season With 3-0 Loss At Williams Williamstown, Mass. - May 2, 2011 - The Springfield College baseball team wrapped up its 2011 season with a 3-0 loss at Williams on Monday afternoon under breezy and cloudy conditions at Bobby Coombs Field. About The Team
Success has always been synonymous with Springfield College baseball. The SC baseball program has made 17 NCAA Tournament appearances in its 105 years (1906-2011), including four trips to the College World Series. In 1999, SC captured the ECAC New England Division III post-season tournament. SC’s overall baseball record is 1325-1108-12 (.544 winning percentage).
Head Coach
Mark Simeone (255-270) enters his 16th year at the helm in 2012, and is well on his way towards following in the footsteps of former baseball head coaching greats
Harold DeGroat (139 wins),
Archie Allen (454 wins), and
Chuck Roys (323 wins), all members of the Springfield College Athletic Hall of Fame. Simeone has fashioned seven winning seasons in his 15 years piloting the Pride. Under Simeone, SC was nine-for-ten in advancing to the double-elimination portion of the NEWMAC post-season tourney since that conference began play in 1999. In 2008, Springfield reached the championship round of the NEWMAC Tourney before falling.
In 2011, senior (OF)
John Schmaltz (3.84 GPA) was honored as a Capital One First Team Academic All-District selection. Schmaltz was also named to the NEWMAC All-Conference Second Team for his play on the field, which included a .390 batting average. The Pride have a history of producing great all-around student-athletes. In 2008, then-junior (LHP)
Jimmy Lisowski (3.98 GPA) was honored as a First Team All-NEWMAC athlete for the second-consecutive year. Also excelling in the classroom, Lisowski, was named an
ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America (District I) for the second time in 2008 (he was hurt in 2009). Senior catcher
Justin Nussey (3.95 GPA) received the same honor, and was also honored as Springfield's Top Male Senior Scholar-Athlete in 2008. Also, RHP and former closer
Jon Davis '06 was signed to a pro contract by the New Haven Cutters of the Can-Am League, an independent baseball league, in the summer of 2007.

Mark Simeone will enter his 16th season as the head baseball coach at his alma mater in 2012 . With Simeone calling the signals from the third-base coaching box, SC has recorded seven winning seasons, five of which eclipsed the 20-win mark.
