Springfield College To Induct Six Members Into Its Athletics Hall of Fame

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. -- September 19, 2008 – Springfield College will induct the 36th class into its Athletics Hall of Fame on Saturday, October 18, during the College’s Homecoming Weekend festivities. The six newest members will be Michael "Spider" Brown '80, Robert Elsinger ’65, Brenda Bradley Hogan '91,Larry Mulvaney ’49, Theodore A. "Ted" Smith ’48 (posthumously), and William "Fritz" Wiedergott ’58. Read More.
NACWAA Honors Dr. Kelly Hart With Division III Administrator of the Year Award
Wilmington, NC, September 17, 2008 - This year, the National Association of Collegiate Women Athletics Administrators (NACWAA) will honor Dr. Kelly Hart, Springfield College (Division III), as one of its eight Administrator of the Year Award recipients. Trio Named To ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America Team

Four Baseball Student-Athletes Named to NEWMAC Academic All-Conference Team

About The Team
Success has always been synonymous with Springfield College baseball. The SC baseball program has made 17 NCAA Tournament appearances in its 102 years (1906-2008), including four trips to the College World Series. In 1999, SC captured the ECAC New England Division III post-season tournament. SC’s overall baseball record is 1277-1016-12 (.557 winning percentage).Head Coach Mark Simeone (223-199) enters his 13th year at the helm in 2009, and is well on his way towards following in the footsteps of former baseball head coaching greats Harold DeGroat (139 wins), Archie Allen (454 wins), and Chuck Roys (323 wins), all members of the Springfield College Athletic Hall of Fame. Simeone has fashioned seven winning seasons in his 12 years piloting the Pride. Under Simeone, SC is nine-for-ten in advancing to the double-elimination portion of the NEWMAC post-season tourney since that conference began play in 1999. In 2008, Springfield reached the championship round of the NEWMAC Tourney before falling.
Most recently (2008), junior (LHP) Jimmy Lisowski (3.98 GPA) was honored as a First Team All-NEWMAC athlete for the second-consecutive year. Also excelling in the classroom, Lisowski, was named an ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America (District I) for the second time in 2008. Senior catcher Justin Nussey (3.95 GPA) received the same honor, and was also honored as Springfield's Top Male Senior Scholar-Athlete in 2008. Also, RHP and former closer Jon Davis '06 was signed to a pro contract by the New Haven Cutters of the Can-Am League, an independent baseball league, in the summer of 2007.

Head Coach Mark Simeone
Former Springfield College standout Mark Simeone in 2009 enters his 13th season as the head baseball coach at his alma mater. With Simeone calling the signals from the third-base coaching box, SC has recorded seven winning seasons, five of which eclipsed the 20-win mark. Read more.
