MEDFORD, Mass., February 7, 2004 – Springfield College senior Pawel Jarosczewicz (East Longmeadow, Mass.) won the 200-meter dash (22.56) and the 400-meter dash (49.32) as the Pride finished third out of 16 teams with 97 team points at the Tufts Invitational on Saturday.

SC’s 4x400 relay team of freshman Jeff Cogan (Walworth, N.Y.), sophomore Billy King (Wilmington, Mass.), senior Art Fredericks (Wallingford, Conn.), and Jarosczewicz won the event in 3:23.12.

In the field events, it was Pride junior Justin Welch (Woburn, Mass.), who won the high jump competition (1.94 meters); freshman Alex Kampersol (Natick, Mass.), who took the shot put (14.09 meters); and junior Blake Gulino (Old Saybrook, Conn.), who finished second in the long jump competition (6.36 meters).

On the women’s side, sophomore Meghan Young (Hurley, N.Y.) finished third in the 3,000-meter run (10:31.15) and fourth in the 1,000-meter run (3:12.62) as the Pride finished fourth of 16 teams with a team score of 69.75 at the Tufts Invitational.

SC sophomore Alisha Miner (Sanbornton, N.H.) placed second in the 400-meter dash with a 1:01.40 time.

The Pride’s 4x200 relay team of freshman Julie Ferdella (Leicester, Mass.), freshman Jessica Denehy (Whately, Mass.), freshman Cortney Birtwell (East Longmeadow, Mass.), and Miner finished second at 1:49.74.

In the field events, SC senior Leyla Williams (Unionville, N.Y.) finished second in the weight throw (14.06 meters); senior Suzie Snyder (Averill Park, N.Y.) placed in a tie for fourth in the pole vault (2.75 meters), and junior Amanda Alpert (Saugus, Mass.) finished fifth in the shot put competition (11.34 meters).
