Women's Lacrosse Defeats Keene State College 10-9
KEENE, N.H. March 24, 2005 – Springfield College sophomores Heidi Eidse (Bryn Athyn, Pa.) and Ashley Martell (Billerica, Mass.) scored three goals each to lead the Pride to a 10-9 victory over Keene State College in women's lacrosse this afternoon in Keene, N.H.
The Pride jumped out to an early three-goal lead with 20:51 on the clock after tallies by Martell, senior midfielder Spring Silverman (Huntington, Pa.) and Eidse. The Owls answered with a 5-1 run to end the half with a 5-4 lead.
Another Keene State goal less than two minutes into the second half made it a two-goal game, 6-4, but five-straight Pride goals over the next 15:13, including two by Martell, gave SC a 9-6 lead that it would not relinquish.
The two teams traded goals, including Eidse's third of the game, as the Pride led 10-7, with 9:45 remaining in the game. The Owls almost came back to tie the game, scoring a pair of goals just 22 seconds apart to cut the deficit to 10-9 with 2:13 remaining, but SC was able to gain possession and run out the clock for its second victory of the season.
SC opens its NEWMAC schedule on Saturday at M.I.T. at 1 p.m.
