Women's Lacrosse Takes Down Mount Holyoke, 11-6
SPRINGFIELD, Mass., April 23, 2005 – Springfield College junior forward Holly Carmody (Wayland, Mass.) registered three goals, including the 100th of her career, and an assist to lead the Pride to a 11-6 victory over Mount Holyoke College in New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) women’s lacrosse action this afternoon on Benedum Field.
Sophomore forward Ashley Martell (Billerica, Mass.) added two goals and two assists in the Pride’s (9-4, 5-1 NEWMAC) fifth-straight victory.
The Pride opened a 5-1 lead with 18:26 remaining in the first half, including consecutive goals by Carmody. Mount Holyoke went on a 3-1 run, including a goal and two assists by junior forward Caitlin Taylor, to bring the Lyons within two, 6-4, at halftime.
In the second half, a 4-1 Pride run, including a pair of goals by sophomore forward Heidi Eidse (Bryn Athyn, Pa.), gave SC a 10-5 lead with 12:27 to play in the game.
Taylor scored led all scorers with five points (2 goals, 3 assists), for the Lyons (8-7, 2-4 NEWMAC).
Pride goalie Kristin Vaccaro (Southington, Conn.) picked up her seventh victory of the season, making four saves, while Mount Holyoke junior Lauren Mulcahy stopped nine shots for the Lyons.
Carmody, who became only the seventh player in SC history to score 100 goals, is fifth on the Pride's all-time scoring list with 149 points (102 goals, 47 assists) to date.
SC returns to action Tuesday (April 26) traveling to Plymouth State at 4:00 p.m. for its regular-season finale.
