Women's Volleyball Defeats Coast Guard, 3-0

NEWM LONDON, Conn. - Sept. 16, 2003 - Springfield College sophomore opposite Ashley Reves (Orchard Park, N.Y.) was credited with 17 kills and 10 digs to lead the Pride to a 3-0 (31-29, 30-19, 30-17) win over Coast Guard in the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) opener for both squads.

Senior middle blocker Roxanne Breuler (East Haddam, Conn.) added 15 kills and a .481 hitting percentage for Springfield (9-0, 1-0 NEWMAC), which won its ninth-straight match to open the 2003 season.

Coast Guard (7-3, 0-1 NEWMAC) led 20-15 in game one, before the Pride scored 11 of the next 14 points to take a 26-23 lead. The Bears responded by scoring six of the next seven points for a 29-27 lead, before the Pride scored four-straight to win the game.

Head Coach Joel Dearing

Joel Dearing will enter his 22nd season as head women's volleyball coach at his alma mater in the fall of 2010. Dearing is regarded nationally as one of the sport’s best coaches and he has the resume to prove it. Dearing ranks in the top-10 in Division III history with a 697-305 (.695) overall mark in 29 seasons as a women’s volleyball coach. Read more.
