Women's Volleyball Defeats Coast Guard, 3-0

NEWM LONDON, Conn. - Sept. 16, 2003 - Springfield College sophomore opposite Ashley Reves (Orchard Park, N.Y.) was credited with 17 kills and 10 digs to lead the Pride to a 3-0 (31-29, 30-19, 30-17) win over Coast Guard in the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) opener for both squads.

Senior middle blocker Roxanne Breuler (East Haddam, Conn.) added 15 kills and a .481 hitting percentage for Springfield (9-0, 1-0 NEWMAC), which won its ninth-straight match to open the 2003 season.

Coast Guard (7-3, 0-1 NEWMAC) led 20-15 in game one, before the Pride scored 11 of the next 14 points to take a 26-23 lead. The Bears responded by scoring six of the next seven points for a 29-27 lead, before the Pride scored four-straight to win the game.

Dearing is regarded nationally as one of the sport’s best coaches and he has the resume to prove it.
