Baseball Falls To WNEC, 8-3
SPRINGFIELD, Mass., April 8, 2005 – Springfield College junior third basemen Derek Yvon (East Longmeadow, Mass.) went 1-for-4 on the day with an RBI and a run scored, but Western New England College held the Pride to just five hits enroute to an 8-3 victory in baseball action this afternoon on Berry-Allen Field.
The Pride (6-10) scored three times in the bottom of the ninth led by Yvon’s RBI double, but struggled offensively throughout the first eight innings.
Golden Bears (10-3) junior Jason Connelly pitched a complete game, striking out 12, while just allowing two earned runs. Senior Chris Mahoney smashed a solo homerun in the fifth inning and went 2-for-4 on the day.
The Pride travel to Worcester, Mass on Saturday (April 9) and will play NEWMAC rival Clark University in a double-header beginning at 12:00 pm.
