NEW YORK, N.Y. - March 29, 2005 - Springfield College senior All-American libero
Eduardo Stawinski (San Juan, Puerto Rico) broke the SC all-time record in career digs, but it was No. 2 NYU holding off the Pride, 3-2 (22-30, 30-22, 28-30, 30-27, 15-12) in EIVA-Tait men’s volleyball action last night in the Big Apple.
Stawinski's seven digs in the match gives him 724 total, moving him past Greg Lardo '03 who compiled 719 from 2000-'03.
Senior All-American outside hitter
Brandon Mueller (Bartlett, Ill.) totaled a team-high 21 kills in the match. Senior middle blocker
Rick Albano (Spencerport, N.Y.) had 13 kills on 15 swings for an .867 hitting percentage. Sophomore outside hitter
Kevin Lail (Clovis, Calif.) and freshman outside hitter
Eric Palumbo (Churchville-Chili, N.Y.) each contributed 11 kills to the Pride cause.
NYU’s Macnair Sillick totaled a match-high 27 kills to lead the Violets.
The loss, which was the final match of a season-long seven-match road trip, drops SC to 6-11, 2-7 EIVA-Tait, while NYU improves to 6-11, 2-8.
The Pride wraps up the regular-season this weekend with home conference matches with Div. III No. 1 Juniata College, Friday (April 1) and Rutgers-Newark, Saturday (April 2). Both matches start at 7 p.m.
