Baseball Scores Twice In Ninth, Downs MCLA 9-8
SPRINGFIELD, Mass., April 12, 2004 – Springfield College sophomore rightfielder James Miner (Methuen, Mass.) went 3-for-5 with two runs scored, including a home run in the fourth inning, to lead the Pride to a 9-8 come-from-behind victory over MCLA, 9-8, this afternoon at Berry-Allen Field.
SC junior centerfielder Mike Burns (Wynantskill, N.Y.) went 4-for-5 and scored twice for the Pride (4-8), which ended a four-game losing streak.
Down, 8-7, entering the bottom of the ninth, junior Mike Judge (Chatham, N.J.) scored on a junior Matt Basteri’s (Melrose, Mass.) double to tie the game. With the bases loaded and no one out, sophomore Derek Yvon (Longmeadow, Mass.) scored the game-winner on a wild pitch.
SC sophomore right-hander Rob Smaldone (Wappingers Falls, N.Y.) pitched 3.1 innings of relief to pick up his first win of the season.
MCLA senior Travis Browdoski (Hudson, N.Y.) went 2-for-3 with three RBI in the game for the Trailblazers (9-8).
