Baseball Cruises Past Coast Guard, 13-4, In NEWMAC Tournament
BABSON PARK, Mass., May 1, 2005- Third-seeded Springfield College baseball team scored six runs in the fifth inning en route to a 13-4 win over fifth-seeded Coast Guard in the consolation bracket of the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Tournament played at Babson College.
The Pride’s offensive attack was led by junior catcher Adam Tarquini (Fishkill, N.Y.) who went 2-for-5 with two RBI, while senior left fielder Mike Burns (Wynanstkill, N.Y.) recorded a 2-for-5 showing with two runs scored and two RBI. Sophomore second baseman Bob Schiaroli (Naugatuck, Conn.) went 1-for-4 and drilled a two out single plating two in the fifth inning. Junior third baseman Derek Yvon (East Longmeadow, Mass.) was also impressive at the plate going 3-for-6.
Senior left-hander Kevin Davidson (Claremont, N.H.) worked five innings, scattering six hits and recording two strikeouts for his fifth win this season. Junior right-hander Rob Smaldone (Wappingers Falls, N.Y.) worked four innings of relief giving up just three hits, while striking out two en route to his second save this season.
