Baseball Falls To Coast Guard In 10 Innings
SPRINGFIELD, Mass., March 30, 2004 – Springfield College junior centerfielder Anthony Gorneault (Longmeadow, Mass.) went 2-for-4 with a triple but Coast Guard scored four times in the 10th inning and beat the Pride, 8-4, in a New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) baseball game today at Berry-Allen Field.
Coast Guard (6-6-1, 1-2 NEWMAC) shortstop Nick Anderson was 3-for-5 with an RBI, and junior catcher Mike Feltovic also went 3-for-5 and drove in what proved to be the game-winning run in the 10th inning. Sophomore hurler Cory Anderson pitched two scoreless inning and struck out four to even his record at 2-2.
SC junior designated hitter Mike Judge (Chatham, N.J.) was 2-for-3 with a pair of runs batted in for the Pride (1-3, 1-2 NEWMAC), and junior first baseman John Beattie (Longmeadow, Mass.) scored two runs. SC sophomore right-hander Robert Smaldone (Wappingers Falls, N.Y.) allowed just two earned runs in 5.2 innings of relief but was tagged with his first loss of the season.
