Baseball Falls To WPI, 10-9
SPRINGFIELD, Mass., April 13, 2005- Springfield College senior Anthony Gorneault (Springfield, Mass.) smashed a three run homerun in the second inning, but WPI’s late rally defeated the Pride, 10-9, in baseball action played on Berry-Allen Field.
SC had built a 8-0 lead, before WPI scored six runs in the eighth inning, and four in the ninth for the comeback victory.
Pride Senior Kevin Davidson (Claremont, N.H.) pitched seven strong innings scattering four hits, while striking out five. Junior right fielder James Miner (Methuen, Mass.) went 2-for-5 and added a RBI.
The Engineers (4-16) were down to their final strike, but sophomore Dan Mahoney ripped a two run double scoring the eventual game winning runs. The Engineers also had a strong performance by junior Nick Angelini who went 2-for-5 with three RBI and two runs scored.
The Pride (8-12) plays host to Eastern Connecticut on Wednesday (April 14) starting at 3:30 on Berry-Allen Field.
