Softball Takes Two From Clark, 8-2, 6-3

SPRINGFIELD, Mass., April 17, 2003 – Springfield College senior first baseman Ali Gerrish (Plymouth, Mass.) went 2-for-3 with a two-run double and a solo home run to lead the Pride to a 8-2 win over Clark University in the first game of a New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) this afternoon at Potter Field.
Sophomore pitcher Brianne Pearson (Brockton, Mass.) improved her record to 12-2 and helped her own cause with a sixth-inning solo home run to left center. Pearson scattered six hits over seven innings with four strikeouts. Sophomore right fielder Laurie Cersosimo (W. Hartford, Conn.) also smashed a two-run home run over the left center field fence in the third inning.
In game two, sophomore catcher Missy Edwards (Calverton, N.Y.) crushed her seventh homer of the season over the left centerfield wall to cap a three-run third as the Pride went on to take the nightcap, 6-3. Edwards added an RBI double in the fifth.
Gerrish had two doubles with an RBI as sophomore pitcher Amy Brucker (Westerly, R.I.) allowed three runs and five hits over seven innings to pick up her eighth win of the spring.
The Pride (20-6, 10-0 NEWMAC), which has won 14 of its last 15, is undefeated in NEWMAC play and is currently sitting atop the league standings. Clark is 10-12, and 4-6 in the NEWMAC.

Head Coach Julie Perrelli
Julie Perrelli was been named an Assistant Professor of Physical Education and Head Softball Coach at Springfield College in June of 2009. The head softball coach at Smith for the past three years, Perrelli received both her doctorate (this past May) and her masters in 2004 from Springfield College, where she served as a graduate assistant for the Pride from the 2003 through 2006 seasons.
