Softball Takes Two From Mount Holyoke

SPRINGFIELD, Mass., April 2, 2004 - Springfield College sophomore shortstop Keir Stanford (Melrose, Mass.) went 4-for-4 with two home runs and three RBI as the Pride beat Mount Holyoke, 14-4, in the first game of a New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) softball doubleheader today at Potter Field.
Junior pitcher Amy Brucker (Westerly, R.I.) went 2-for-3 with three RBI while improving her pitching mark to 7-1. Sophomore second baseman Amanda Johansson (Leominster, Mass.) was 2-for-3 with three RBI while junior right fielder Laurie Cersosimo (West Hartford, Conn.) scored three times.
In the second game, SC junior catcher Missy Edwards (Calverton, N.Y.) drilled a three-run home run to break a 5-5 tie to lead the Pride to a 10-6 victory. This was Edwards’ 17th career home run and she is now the Pride’s all-time leader in that category. Johansson went 2-for-3 with two RBI for SC (11-3, 4-0 NEWMAC).
Mount Holyoke (3-13-1, 0-4 NEWMAC) jumped out to a quick four-run lead in the top of the first, but the Pride’s relentless offense responded by scoring in every inning to topple the Lyons .
For the Lyons, freshman shortstop Chloe Pete went 3-for-4 and scored a run in the second game.

Head Coach Julie Perrelli

Julie Perrelli was been named an Assistant Professor of Physical Education and Head Softball Coach at Springfield College in June of 2009. The head softball coach at Smith for the past three years, Perrelli received both her doctorate (this past May) and her masters in 2004 from Springfield College, where she served as a graduate assistant for the Pride from the 2003 through 2006 seasons.
