Softball Splits Doubleheader With Keene State
SPRINGFIELD, Mass., March 27, 2003 – Springfield College senior All-American Ali Gerrish (Plymouth, Mass.) went 3-for-4 with three RBI to lead the Pride to a 9-1 victory in the second game of a doubleheader with Keene State College this afternoon at Potter Field.
Keene State (10-3) took the opening game thanks in part to junior second baseman Kerry Marsh, who capped a seven-run eighth inning with a three-run home run to give the Owls a 10-3 win in eight innings.
SC (7-5) opened the scoring early in the second game when sophomore right fielder Laurie Cersosimo (W. Hartford, Conn.) drove in senior centerfielder Jill Roach (S. Hadley, Mass.) to give the Pride a 1-0 lead. Springfield then broke the game open with a five-run third inning that featured a two-run double from senior second baseman Nicole Coromato (Utica, N.Y.). The game was called during the bottom of the sixth inning due to darkness.
In the opening game, SC got on the board first when senior pitcher Brianne Pearson (Brockton, Mass.) scored on a Keene State error to make the score 1-0 in the fifth. The Owls answered in the sixth inning when junior designated player Caroline Kurkowski smashed a three-run homer. Pearson tied the game in the bottom of the inning when she blasted her own two-run home run over the left field fence.
