Softball Loses In Extra-Innings To Williams, 6-5
SPRINGFIELD, Mass., April 6, 2005 – Springfield College junior Amanda Johansson (Leominster, Mass.) went 2-for-5 on with one RBI and scored one of the Pride’s four first-inning runs, but that was not enough, as Williams defeated the Pride 6-5, in extra innings today at Potter Field.
Led by sophomore Regine Lim the Ephs quickly answered, scoring three runs in the second. Lim, who was 3-for-4, had two of her three RBI off a double, as Williams made it a 4-3 game.
A solo home run in the fifth inning by senior catcher Mary Baccash tied the game, 4-4, but the Pride quickly regained the lead in the next half-inning off a RBI single from senior captain Carrie Boyce (New Britain, Conn.).
Lim tied the game up, 5-5, in the sixth inning scoring freshman Katie Powers, and forcing the game to go into extra-innings. The Ephs would take the lead 6-5 in the top of the ninth before shutting Springfield down in the bottom half of the inning, for the win.
The second game of the scheduled double-header was called before the fifth inning began due to darkness.
SC will head to Smith College on Friday to take on the Pioneers in a double header beginning at 3:30 pm.
