Softball Splits With Eastern Connecticut

WILLIMANTIC, Conn., April 2, 2003 -- Springfield College sophomore catcher Missy Edwards (Calverton, N.Y.) ripped a three-run home run in the top of the seventh inning, and the Pride captured a 6-2 win over Eastern Connecticut State Wednesday afternoon in the first game of a doubleheader at Howard Spector Field.

Edwards' homer capped a six-run outburst after the Pride fell behind, 2-0, in the third inning. Sophomore leftfielder Amy Brucker (Westerly, R.I.) collected two hits and drove in a pair of runs, and sophomore rightfielder Laurie Cersosimo (West Hartford, Conn.) scored twice.

SC sophomore Brianne Pearson (Brockton, Mass.) picked up her sixth win of the season, allowing only two third-inning runs and seven hits. She yielded just one hit after the third, and retired 10 consecutive batters before allowing a harmless one-out single in the bottom of the seventh.

In game two, Brucker gave up two runs on seven hits, but that was enough as the Warriors gained a split with a 2-0 win.

ECSU's Lindsay Savelle and Shari D'Amico combined for a two-hit shutout.
