Softball Splits Double-Header With Coast Guard Academy

SPRINGFIELD, Mass., April 1, 2005 – Springfield College junior first basemen Keir Stanford (Melrose, Mass.) was 2-for-3 at the plate and drove in three runs as the Pride came from behind to win 7-5 over Coast Guard in the first game of a double-header at Potter Field. Coast Guard held off a late Pride rally to win the second game, 4-1.

In game one, SC senior Amy Brucker (Westerly, R.I.) picked up her fourth win of the season, pitching a complete game and only allowing five hits while striking out four.

SC freshman Denise Fumicello (Brockton, Mass.) was 3-for-4 in the game and had one of the Pride’s four RBI during its sixth-inning rally. Junior shortstop Caitlin McGaughey (South Windsor, Conn.) was 2-for-4 and drove in two runs for SC (6-7).

In the second half of the double header, SC senior outfielder Lori Baumann (Pittsfield, Mass.) was 2-for-4 with a RBI that gave SC a 1-0 lead in the third inning, four unanswered runs led the Bears to victory.

Coast Guard senior Heidi Miller was 2-for-4, including a game-tying solo home run in the fourth inning while senior Adrian Harris added a two-RBI double in the sixth-inning for the Bears.

SC will travel to Wheaton, Saturday (April 2) for another NEWMAC double-header beginning at 12 pm.

Head Coach Julie Perrelli

Julie Perrelli Julie Perrelli was been named an Assistant Professor of Physical Education and Head Softball Coach at Springfield College in June of 2009. The head softball coach at Smith for the past three years, Perrelli received both her doctorate (this past May) and her masters in 2004 from Springfield College, where she served as a graduate assistant for the Pride from the 2003 through 2006 seasons.
