Softball Drops Pair At Smith
NORTHAMPTON, Mass., April, 8, 2005 – Springfield College senior catcher Missy Edwards (Calverton, N.Y.) and junior designated player Amanda Johansson (Leominster, Mass.) each went 2-for-3 in the first-game of a double header at Smith, but it was the Pioneers sweeping both games, 3-0 and 5-1 in New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) softball action, Friday.
Smith improved its record to 13-6 and 4-2 in the NEWMAC, while SC fell to 9-11 overall and 4-4 in the NEWMAC.
In the second game, SC took a 1-0 lead in the fourth inning after a sacrifice fly by senior pitcher Brittany Dielemans (Middlebury, Conn.) scored junior shortstop Caitlin McGaughey (South Windsor, Conn.) for SC’s only run of the game.
Smith would score all five of its runs in the sixth inning, including a grand slam by junior Katherine Cascio en route to its second victory of the day.
