Softball Falls In NEWMAC Tournament
NORTON, Mass., April 26, 2005 – Springfield College senior pitchers Amy Brucker (Westerly, R.I.) and Brittany Dielemans (Middlebury, Conn.) scattered eight hits over six innings, while only allowing one earned run, but the sixth-seeded Pride fell 3-1 to third-seeded Wheaton yesterday in the first round of the New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) softball tournament.
SC senior catcher Missy Edwards (Calverton, N.Y.), went 2-for-3 on the day, including an RBI single in the sixth that drove in freshman outfielder Denise Fumicello (Brockton, Mass.). Fumicello’s run made the game 3-1, but Wheaton’s freshman pitching combination of Jodi Moynagh and Audrey Poulton did not allow another SC run.
The Pride will close out its season by hosting a doubleheader against Keene State next Tuesday, May 3 beginning at 3:30 pm.
