Softballs Sweeps Tufts, 9-5 And 6-5

SPRINGFIELD, Mass., March 30, 2004 – Springfield College junior
Amy Brucker (Westerly, R.I.) went 2-for-4 with an RBI, and improved to 6-0 as a starting pitcher as the Pride defeated visiting Tufts, 9-5, in the first game of a non-league softball doubleheader on Potter Field this afternoon.
Brucker, who is 6-1 overall, registered her sixth complete game of the ’04 campaign. SC junior first baseman
Jackie Agrillo (Acton, Mass.) was 3-for-4 with three RBI in the win, and sophomore second baseman
Amanda Johannson (Leominster, Mass.) was 3-for-3.
For Tufts, senior centerfielder Maggie McClory was 3-for-4, and junior shortstop Courtney Biongiolatti drove in two runs.
In game two, the Pride (8-3) withstood a late Jumbo rally and held on for a 6-5 win. Brucker came on in relief of sophomore
Brittany Dielemans (Middlebury, Conn.) and hurled 1.1 scoreless innings to record her first save of the season. Dielemans, who improved to 3-2 on the mound, helped her cause by collecting two hits, driving in two runs and scoring a run. SC junior leftfielder
Lori Baumann (Pittsfield, Mass.) went 2-for-3 and scored twice.
The Jumbos (5-9) spotted SC a 6-3 lead through five innings but scored twice in the fifth to close the gap to one run. Senior catcher Julie Fox drilled her second home run of the season and drove in three runs, and junior first baseman Katie Smith drove in two runs and scored once.
