Softball Sweeps Mount Holyoke, 11-0; 3-0
SOUTH HADLEY, Mass., April 10, 2003 - Springfield College freshman designated player Amanda Johansson (Leominster, Mass.) went 1-for-4 with four RBI, including a three-run home run in the fourth inning, to lead the Pride to a 11-0 victory over Mount Holyoke in the first game of a New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) doubleheader this afternoon in South Hadley, Mass.
Sophomore pitcher Brianne Pearson (Brockton, Mass.) scattered three hits over five scoreless innings with four strikeouts. Pearson, who also went 3-for-4 from the plate with two runs scored and an RBI, improves to 7-2 on the season.
Sophomore catcher Missy Edwards (Calverton, Mass.) also smashed a three-run homer in the third inning. Senior Ali Gerrish (Plymouth, Mass.) went 3-for-4 with with three RBI and two runs scored.
In the second game, SC jumped out to a quick lead on its way to a 3-0 win. SC sophomore rightfielderLaurie Cersosimo (W. Hartford, Conn.) scored what proved to be the winning run on a Johansson double in the first inning.
Sophomore pitcher Amy Brucker (Westerly, R.I.) only allowed two hits over seven scoreless innings with four strikeouts to pace the Pride.
Junior third basemanMissy Rupprecht (Braintree, Mass.) scored on a pinch-hit double from Edwards in the fifth inning. Springfield added another run in the sixth.

Head Coach Julie Perrelli

Julie Perrelli was been named an Assistant Professor of Physical Education and Head Softball Coach at Springfield College in June of 2009. The head softball coach at Smith for the past three years, Perrelli received both her doctorate (this past May) and her masters in 2004 from Springfield College, where she served as a graduate assistant for the Pride from the 2003 through 2006 seasons.
