SPRINGFIELD, Mass., March 26, 2004 – Despite a match-high 25 kills by Springfield College junior swing hitter
Brandon Mueller (Bartlett, Ill.), Division I Loyola-Chicago held off the No. 3 Pride, 3-1 (29-31, 30-17, 30-27, 33-31), in men’s volleyball action this evening in Blake Arena.
Springfield (5-12) totaled a .378 team hitting percentage en route to winning the first game, but it was the Ramblers (14-7) regrouping to sweep the next three games and win their fifth decision in their last six matches.
Senior outside hitter
Mike Alesch (Elgin, Ill.) led the way for Loyola-Chicago with 22 kills and nine digs, while freshman setter
Brian Guntil (St. Louis, Mo.) directed the Rambler offense with 60 assists.
Senior opposite Chris Hosley (Nassau, N.Y.) added 10 kills and eight digs for the Pride, as junior libero
Eduardo Stawinski (San Juan, Puerto Rico) chipped in 10 digs.
SC returns to action tomorrow, hosting Harvard in a 7:00 match in Blake Arena.
