No. 1 Men's Volleyball Holds On For 3-2 Win Over St. Francis

SPRINGFIELD, Mass., February 7, 2004 – Springfield College junior swing hitter
Brandon Mueller (Bartlett, Ill.) totaled 28.5 points (26 kills, service ace, 3 block assists) as the Pride held on for a 3-2 (30-25, 30-24, 20-30, 23-30, 15-13) win over St. Francis (Pa.) in its EIVA-Tait Division opener this evening in Blake Arena.
Junior swing hitter
Matt Smith (Midlothian, Va.) was credited with 15 points (14 kills, 2 block assists), while freshman setter
Robert Soris (Niskyuna, N.Y.) added 58 assists for Springfield (2-2, 1-0 EIVA Tait) in its first conference match of the winter.
The Pride jumped out to a 2-0 lead, before the Red Flash, led by senior outside hitter
Chris Kennedy (Plainview, N.Y.) and his 21 points (18 kills, 2 service aces, 2 block assists), stormed back by taking the next two games. SC held on to take the fifth and deciding game, 15-13.
Springfield, the No. 1 ranked team in Division III, returns to action Tuesday (Feb. 10) when it hosts Vassar College at 7:30 p.m. in Blake Arena.
