No. 2 Men's Volleyball Upset By No. 7 NYU
NEW YORK CITY, N.Y., March 9, 2004 – Springfield College junior swing hitter Brandon Mueller (Bartlett, Ill.) totaled a match-high 27 kills, but the NYU Violets upset the Pride in four games 3-1 (37-35, 24-30, 30-23, 30-21). Springfield is ranked second in the latest American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Poll, while NYU is ranked seventh.
Junior middle blocker Ricky Albano (Spencerport, N.Y.) and senior swing hitter Chris Hosley (Nassau, N.Y.) each contributed 11 kills for Springfield (5-9) who fell to the Violets for the first time in two years (NYU 3-1, April 7, 2002).
NYU (12-4) senior captain Evan Finch (Lindenhurst, N.Y.) led the Violets with 29 points (26 kills, one service ace, four block assists) and 12 digs.
Springfield returns to action Friday hosting Rutgers-Newark in Blake Arena at 7 p.m. and will travel to Princeton to take on the Tigers Saturday at 5 p.m. Both contests are EIVA Tait matches.
