No. 3 Men's Volleyball Bows Out To No. 1 Juniata in EIVA Div. I playoffs

HUNTINGDON, Pa. - April 24, 2004 - Junior swing hitter Brandon Mueller (Bartlett, Ill.) led No. 3 Springfield College with a match-high 15 kills, but top-ranked Juniata outdistanced the Pride for the third time this season, 3-1, (30-20, 26-30, 30-25, 30-20) in the Eastern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association (EIVA) Division I Tournament quarterfinals Saturday night.

SC (7-16) also received contributions from senior swing hitter Chris Hosley (Nassau, N.Y.) and junior middle blocker Ricky Albano (Spencerport, N.Y.), who added nine and eight kills, respectively. Albano led all Springfield blockers with seven block assists.

Juniata senior outside hitter Ryan Genova equaled Mueller’s match-high 15 kills to lead Juniata (18-6) to the win. The Eagles will take on Rutgers-Newark in the semifinals of the tournament in New Jersey on April 29.

The quarterfinal was a re-match of this year's Molten National Championship semifinal match, in which Juniata scraped past SC, 3-2, en route to this year’s Molten National Championship. The crown was Juniata’s second, but is still far short of the Pride’s four championships overall, which is the most by any Division III program.
