No. 3 Men's Volleyball sweeps Vassar, 3-0
POUGHKIPSEE, N.Y. - March 25, 2005 - The Springfield College Men’s Volleyball team completed a season sweep of the Vassar College last night by sweeping the Brewers for the second time this season, 3-0 (30-23, 30-24, 30-16).
Springfield senior middle blocker Matt Smith (Midlothian, Va.) led all players with a .533 hitting percentage with 10 kills on 15 swings. Senior All-American outside hitter Brandon Mueller (Bartlett, Ill.) tallied match-high 11 kills, while sophomore setter Robert Sorris (Nisakyuna, N.Y.) had 36 assists.
Senior libero Eduardo Stawinski (San Juan, Puerto Rico) added a match-high 13 digs, Stawinski is seven digs short of the school record of 719 held by Greg Lardo ’03. It will be the second career record to fall this season as Mueller broke Lardo’s career kill mark with his 1,405th kill earlier this season against Princeton.
The No. 3-ranked Pride are now 6-10 overall and the Brewers fall to 3-13.
The Pride travel to George Mason to take on the EIVA-Tait Division rival Patriots Saturday (March 26) for the sixth match of a season-long seven-match road trip.
