H. TODD STITZER, JULIUS JONES ADDRESS SPRINGFIELD COLLEGE GRADUATES Cadbury Schweppes Chief Executive Officer H. Todd Stitzer and YMCA Hall of Fame Member Julius Jones gave addresses at Springfield College's 121st commencement ceremonies. Stitzer spoke to undergraduate students on Sunday, May 13, at the MassMutual Center. Read more. Jones addressed graduate students on Saturday, May 12, on the College's Naismith Green. Read more.
GROUNDBREAKING TAKES PLACE FOR NEW FIELD HOUSE AND NEW WELLNESS CENTER A groundbreaking ceremony for construction of two new buildings on campus, a field house and a wellness center, took place on Friday, May 11, at 11:30 a.m., on Naismith Circle, on the campus. Read more.
SPRINGFIELD COLLEGE TO LAUNCH INFORMATION STORAGE TECHNOLOGY COURSES Springfield College will introduce courses in information storage technologies, beginning with a seminar in the spring of 2008 and adding increasingly complex courses each semester through the fall of 2009. Read more.
SPRINGFIELD COLLEGE STUDENTS CLEAN LAKE MASSASOIT SHORES DURING KEEP SPRINGFIELD BEAUTIFUL DAY Springfield College joined the Keep Springfield Beautiful city-wide clean-up effort on Saturday, April 28, with more than 40 students beautifying the shores of Lake Massasoit and streets around the campus.
SPRINGFIELD COLLEGE AUTHOR READS FROM NEW BOOK James L. Ragonnet, Ph.D., Springfield College professor of English, read from his recently published book "Golf's Three Noble Truths: The Fine Art of Playing Awake" on Tuesday, April 24, in Marsh Memorial Chapel. Read more.

OBITUARIES
Willye B. White H'99, died in Chicago on February 6, 2007. The U.S. Track Olympian and Springfield College 1999 honorary degree recipient and commencement speaker was the first American track and field athlete to compete in five Olympics, competing from 1956 through 1972, winning the silver as a sixteen-year-old in 1956 in the long jump, and again in 1964 in the 4x100-meter relay.
ATHLETICS
MEN 14TH, WOMEN 16TH AT ALL-DIVISION NEW ENGLAND TRACK AND FIELD CHAMPIONSHIPS For the Pride men, freshman Steve Headley finished second in the 100 meters (10.81) to lead SC to a 14th-place finish out of 37 scoring teams with 18 total team points at the All-Division New England meet. The Pride women, led by freshman Nikki Hay and sophomore Kelsey Bishop, also scored 18 team points to finish 16th out of 34 scoring teams. Hay finished third in the triple jump with a mark of 37 feet, 5.25 inches, and Bishop took third in the hammer throw with a toss of 165 feet, 6 inches. Read more.
MEN'S LACROSSE ENDS SEASON WITH 8-6 LOSS AT WNEC IN PILGRIM LEAGUE TITLE GAME For the first time since 2002, the WNEC Golden Bears defeated the Pride in the championship game of the Pilgrim Lacrosse League Tournament, 8-6. The game marked the sixth straight season that the two squads have met in the title game of the Pilgrim Tournament. For SC, goals were scored by six different players, as senior goalkeeper Kyle Cloutier played well in net, allowing just eight goals to go along with 12 saves. Read more.
MEN'S LACROSSE LANDS SIX ON ALL-PILGRIM LEAGUE TEAMS; JOE HENEY NAMED ROOKIE OF THE YEAR At the annual post-season coaches meeting on Monday, May 7, sophomore attack Jake Beebe, sophomore midfielder Chris Jez, senior defender Paul Voegeli, and junior long-stick midfielder Chris Sharpe were all named to the Pilgrim Lacrosse League First Team. Landing on the Second Team was sophomore midfielder Jake Jones and freshman defender Mike Smith. First-year attack Joe Heney took home Rookie of the Year honors in the Pilgrim League. Read more.
SC'S ALL-NEWMAC SPRING CHOICES INCLUDE THREE ROOKIES OF THE YEAR Freshmen Michelle Wlosek (softball), Trevor Romanzi (men's tennis), and Steve Headley (men's track and field) were each named NEWMAC Rookies of the Year in their respective sports this spring. All told, the Pride had numerous student-athletes honored as NEWMAC All-Conference spring selections this season: baseball (1), women's lacrosse (5), softball (3), men's tennis (1), men's track and field (15), and women's track and field (6). SC ATHLETICS HONORS SEVERAL STUDENT-ATHLETES AT ANNUAL SPORTS BANQUET Springfield College junior football and lacrosse player Chris Sharpe (Derry, N.H.) headlined a long list of Pride student-athletes honored at the annual year-ending sports banquet at SC's Blake Arena on May 14. Read more.
MEN 3RD, WOMEN 4TH AT NEW ENGLAND DIVISION III TRACK AND FIELD CHAMPIONSHIPS In the New England Division III Men's and Women's Track and Field Championships hosted at Blake Track (May 3-5), freshmen Steve Headley and Nikki Hay were top point-scorers. Senior Alex Kampersal won the shot put competition (54',8.75"), while sophomore Kelsey Bishop took the hammer throw (169',10"). Read more.
FIELDTURF EARNS 2,000TH INSTALLATION AT SC'S BENEDUM FIELD Springfield College has announced it will install FieldTurf at Benedum Field this summer, and groundbreaking has already taken place. The turf is the same that SC installed on its soccer and practice fields next to the PE Complex two years ago, called "the best two field synthetic complex in the Northeast." The Pride plays football, field hockey, and men's and women's lacrosse on Benedum Field. The installation, the 2,000th for FieldTurf world-wide, will be ready for the upcoming fall season. Read more.
CHRISTINE GIBBINS, JEFF HEWES NAMED 2007 NSCA STRENGTH AND CONDITIONING ALL-AMERICANS Springfield College seniors Christine Gibbins (field hockey) and Jeff Hewes (baseball) have been named strength and conditioning All-Americans by the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA). This year, the NSCA has awarded 239 collegiate student-athletes from 165 different institutions throughout the country. Read more.
