Graduate Fellowship and Assistantship Identification Form

Fellowships:

Springfield College offers a variety of fellowship opportunities. To apply for a fellowship position download the appropriate application, and follow the instructions on the form. Please note the February 15 application deadline.

For all other positions, please refer to the Contact List for Graduate Fellowships and Graduate Assistantships. Though a special department application is not required for these areas, you are encouraged to inform the department(s) of your interest by forwarding a resume and cover letter to each.

Please note: All physical education fellowships must be submitted with a coaching and teaching competency form.

Education
Description:
The education department hires half-time (10 hours per week) and full-time (20 hours per week) graduate fellows for the academic year. Applicants must be formally admitted into a graduate degree program at Springfield College.

Major responsibilities:
Assisting professors with research, class preparation, and teaching; class coverage; and scheduling regular office hours to assist students, input data, etc. Desirable applicants possess computer skills (word processing, spreadsheets, power point, etc.); have some teaching or instructional experience; are interested in the professional preparation of educators; are able to establish rapport with students and faculty members, take initiative and are able to work well independently or with supervision; and demonstrate conscientiousness and flexibility.

Description:
The main responsibilities of the department assistant involve working with all of the faculty members on a wide variety of tasks. Frequent responsibilities include: scheduling and reserving media equipment for Professors, delivery/pick-up of items to/from other departments, occasional library research for individual Professors, grading exams and quizzes, composing short documents, and general administrative support.

School of Health Sciences and Rehabilitation Studies

Occupational Therapy
Description:
The Occupational Therapy Department anticipates having four half-time Teaching Fellow positions available for the 2011-2012 academic year. Each of these positions provides 12 semester hours of tuition waiver and a $2000 stipend, divided equally between fall and spring semesters. Each Teaching Fellow must be a full-time Springfield College graduate student (registered for a minimum of 9 semester hours of academic credit during each semester). Each position requires that students be available for an average of 12-14 hours a week, mostly during office hours, during both the fall and spring semesters, for a total of 400 hours for the year. Applicants in the final year of the entry level master's program thus must be willing to begin their Level II fieldwork after the spring semester, or to complete their first fieldwork locally on a part time basis.

Physical Therapy
Description:
Open to any new or returning graduate student, this position provides teaching and research support for faculty. This support may include grading, scheduling, monitoring open laboratory time, conducting literature searches, organizing teaching resources, and other activities to support faculty work. Each fellow is assigned to primary support the work of two (on occasion three) faculty members for the duration of the academic year.

Desired Qualifications:
Computer skills (word processing, including mail merge, database design and maintenance, and spreadsheets); maturity; initiative and judgment in personal and phone contacts; organizational and problem-solving skills with the ability to self-check; and ethical and professional behavior in maintaining confidentiality. This Fellow must be available for an average of 12 hours per week during regular office hours (weekdays between 8am and 6pm) for both fall and spring semesters, with some evening hours for open laboratory times.

Description:
There are three categories of skill course offerings:
Those with the PEAC are offered strictly for skill acquisition. Those with PEPC or MOSK are professional skills courses designed for those majoring in physical education and will contain emphasis on teaching methodology and strategies for application of the activity to differing age levels.

Academic Advising
Description:
The Academic Advising Center at Springfield College has a full administrative, teaching, and research fellowship position available each academic year. For a student in a master's program, the fellowship offers 24 credits of tuition remission and a stipend of $4,000 per academic year. In return, the fellow is responsible to work approximately 20-30 hours per week during the academic calendar.

Description:
One Graduate Fellowship is available in the Office of Academic Affairs. The student will proofread thesis/dissertation proposals and prepare theses/dissertations for final copy and deposit in Babson Library. Special projects will also be assigned.

The position requires that the student has completed RSCH 610 at Springfield College and has working knowledge of APA format. Applicants who have not completed RSCH 610 will not be considered for the position.

Annual Fund/Development
Description:
The Student Phonathon Manager is responsible for the day to day planning and supervision of the phonathon program in coordination with the Development staff. The Student Phonathon Manager reports to the Director of the Annual Fund.

Responsibilities include:
  1. Hire/train/supervise student callers (includes conducting interviews, planning and running training sessions, and overseeing the nightly calling sessions)
  2. Provide on-sight supervision of nightly phonathon sessions (includes motivating and assisting callers, monitoring calls and giving immediate feedback, and enforcing policies with the callers)
  3. Maintain the phonathon center (keep materials neat and organized)
  4. Maintain accurate records of calling sessions (includes keeping statistics and nightly update reports)
  5. Plan and strategize with Development staff (attend staff meetings and other team meetings, work with staff to set goals and develop action steps to meet those goals, plan and review calling schedules as part of the overall solicitation schedule.)

Description:
The Spiritual Life Center supports the spiritual, educational and worship needs of the Springfield College community. We nurture the spiritual lives of students, faculty and staff both within and outside of traditional religious contexts with programs that address the spiritual, moral, and ethical issues that confront us as individuals and as a community. The spiritual life fellowship offers 12 credits of tuition remission per year (6 each semester) as well as an hourly rate. The Fellow is responsible for working approximately 18-20 hours per week during the academic calendar.

The graduate fellowship (20 hr/wk, September- May) will include the following duties:
  1. Critiquing resumes/cover letters (during Walk-In-Hours or by appointment)
  2. Delivering career related Residence Hall programs
  3. Introducing students to FOCUS (Career Exploration Computer Program)
  4. Providing leadership for the Student Advisory Board

Description:
To counsel students who have experienced problems associated with drug or alcohol use. The Graduate Associate will report to Associate Director of the Counseling Center. The caseload will mostly consist of students that have been mandated for an alcohol and other drug assessment through the Dean of Students Office. Weekly individual and group supervision provided.

Graduate Admissions
Description:
The Fellowship and Assistantship positions in the Office of Graduate Admissions are academic year appointments, requiring that you are a graduate student in a good standing (not on probation), taking at least 9 semester hours of credit during the semester (s) of your appointment. As a fellow, you will be expected to work 20 hours per week on a full time appointment or 10 hours per week on a partial appointment. Your responsibilities will include, but not be limited to, data management, research projects, meeting with prospective graduate students to Springfield College, clerical activities, and phone contact. Some travel during the Fall semester may be required. An assistant will have many of the same responsibilities with the exception of travel and will be expected to work 10-15 hours per week.

Description:
As a graduate fellow in the Office of Student Activities & Campus Union, you will have the opportunity to work with student organizations (this work may include advising of Campus Activities Board, Class Board, or other student organization); opportunity to develop program offerings sponsored by the Office; to support leadership initiatives through the i-LEAD Program; and to undertake various initiatives of the Office. Candidates must be able to work a varied and diverse work schedule that includes evenings and weekends and posseses the ability to work with an inclusive student body and to enhance the appreciation and understanding of the diverse culture in which we live, work, and learn.

The office is also responsible for adjudicating student violations of the Student Code of Conduct. The fellowship offers 12 credits of tuition remission per year as well as an hourly rate. Description:
The Springfield College Health Center has one Graduate Associate position offering
12 credits (6 credits per semester) of tuition remission each academic year. In addition, the Graduate Associate is paid to work 15 - 20 hours per week at the Health Center.
Responsibilities:
  • Assist with data entry
  • Provide secretarial assistance and front desk coverage
  • Oversee the distribution of the annual patient satisfaction survey and analyze results from the survey
  • Serve as a representative of Springfield College Health Services to campus departments and community organizations
  • Participate in health education activities

Educator Preparation & Licensure
Description:
The Graduate Fellowship position in Educator Preparation & Licensure involves working together with several individuals under the direct supervision of the Director of Educator Preparation & Licensure. Responsibilities include but are not limited to: referring inquiries about teaching, counseling and administrative licensure to the appropriate individual(s), assisting in the compilation & organization of all materials/records necessary for program approval (accreditation) of teacher/counselor/administrator licensure programs, attending meetings, assisting with website enhancement, maintaining and summarizing numerous surveys and evaluations, assisting in all aspects of the placement procedures (following up with students to ensure all appropriate documents have been received on a timely basis), reviewing placement procedures and the contents of the educator preparation handbook with students, assisting with the day to day operation of the educator preparation & licensure office and other duties as assigned.

Description:
The graduate fellowship in the undergraduate admissions office involves a two year commitment. Responsibilities include: approximately 20 hours of work each week (including Saturdays from October to March) in the admissions office with primary responsibilities in the area of interviewing prospective students, general recruitment,research, and administrative assistance. Graduate fellows are also expected to devote two weeks to travel (College supported) to recruit high school students throughout New England, New York and New Jersey during each of the fall semesters. In return for the services rendered, the College is offering tuition waiver of up to 24 credits per year and a $4,000 stipend per year.

School of Social Work

Social Work
Description:
The main responsibilities of the teaching/research fellow involve working with the Dean's Office, the Field Office, and with the entire faculty on a wide variety of tasks. Frequent responsibilities include library research for individual professors, composing short documents, database entry and maintenance, and general administrative and computer support.

The fellow may also work directly with the School of Social Work faculty/student services coordinator. Other tasks include updating course syllabi, designing and publishing a semi-annual newsletter, or any special projects that fit the needs of the school and the skills of the fellow.
