Favorite part about living in Springfield:
My favorite thing about the city of Springfield has got to be the Forest Park area, where I was born. The duck pond may be one of the most fantastic and beautiful spots in the city, plus there are plenty of trails for biking/walking/etc. When you jog by rolling hills and see people playing guitar and picnicking, you forget you are in a city!

What I love about Springfield College:
I love that Springfield College is growing! I walk around campus every day during lunch, and I get to see something new and exciting every time. It never gets old. The only downside is that students and staff are so friendly here...it takes forever to get to the other end of campus when everyone wants to chat!

Favorite quote:
"People come into your life for a reason, a season or a lifetime. When you figure out which one it is, you will know what to do for each person." - Unknown
"Always be a first-rate version of yourself, instead of a second-rate version of somebody else." -Judy Garland

Advice for college-bound students:
Try not to worry so much during the college selection process. If you listen to your gut and have some faith, you will surely end up where you are supposed to be.

Favorite part of living in this area:
My favorite thing about the city of Springfield is that it is a diverse population of people and families working toward the same goal: the overall betterment of their families and community. I consider it an honor as a resident to be able to assist in the continued development and prosperity of the city of Springfield.

What I love about Springfield College:
What I love most about the campus and the education offered at Springfield College is hands-down the College’s “culture.” In my own words I often times describe to families my impressions of how the humanics philosophy has laid the foundation for the culture that exists here. Service, self-care, and education are all inspired by the daily interactions here at Springfield College.

Favorite quote:
“Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness that frightens us most. We ask ourselves, 'Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, and famous?' Actually, who are you not to be? You are a child of God. Your playing small does not serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that people won't feel insecure around you. We were born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us. It's not just in some of us; it's in all of us. And when we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others.” – This quote was used by Nelson Mandela in his 1994 inaugural speech.

Something you might not know about me:
Some surprising things about me are that I am the oldest member of the undergraduate admissions staff, and I have five children. I also graduated from the weekend program offered at Springfield College at the ripe age of thirty-one!

When I’m not at work, I can be found:
Enjoying a beautiful day, or a stormy one; making art; or lying around with Bradley, my dog.

Favorite college memory:
My favorite college memory is laughing so hard that it hurt with my friends, who became my family away from home. Oh, and learning of course!

Favorite Quote:
"Be the change you wish to see in the world." - Gandhi

Something you might not know about me:
I hate tomatoes, and I always underestimate the power of a perfect cup of coffee.

Danielle Harrison

Danielle Harrison
Admissions Counselor

The newest member of our staff, Danielle, completed both her bachelor's and master's degrees at Springfield. She'll be working closely with students from Maine, New Hampshire, Vermont, Pennsylvania, and areas of New York State that are south of Albany.

Send Danielle an e-mail.
When not at work I can be found:
Participating in some of New England’s seasonal activities and reading the Twilight series.

Favorite college memory:
My favorite college memory begins with the New Student Orientation bonfire when my entire incoming class met and was presented with our class song. Four years later we joined together once again as a united group at our senior banquet. We celebrated our college moments through laughter, tears, and dancing as our class song played.

Favorite part of living in this area:
My favorite part about living in New England is there is always something to do from kayaking in the summer, hiking in the fall, snowboarding in the winter, to fishing in the spring.

What I love about Springfield College:
I love that every individual has the opportunity to become a leader and strengthen their spirit, mind, and body.

Jeff Hannon

Admissions Counselor

Jeff joined our staff in the fall of 2008 and will be working with students from southwestern Connecticut, New Jersey, and areas of New York state, north and west of Albany.

Favorite college memory:
"One of my favorite college memories includes sharing meals with my closest friends. We’d take a break from our busy schedules as we ate and talked about our day over a nice homemade meal."

Favorite part about living in Springfield:
The Pioneer Valley offers students an array of activities to experience and enjoy, including The Basketball Hall of Fame, Springfield’s downtown night life, great restaurants, City Stage, shopping in Northampton, hiking Mt. Tom, and much more! There is something for everyone. If you’re bored here, you aren’t looking hard enough!

Favorite quote:
My high school football/lacrosse coach always used to say, "If you always do what you've always done, you'll always get what you've always gotten." It sounds simple enough, but some people don't realize that to be a better student/athlete/worker/person: it takes work and effort and often change, even if you think things are satisfactory.

Advice for college-bound students:
When you find the school you will be attending for the next four years of your life, get involved and meet as many people as you can. Those four years go by even faster than the four years in high school did. Take advantage of every opportunity to be involved, whether that means joining a varsity or intramural team, volunteering, or taking a weekend outdoor trip. Also, wear sandals in the shower.
