From the Director of Athletics
As we continue to enhance our athletic program, we have identified several important areas of improvement. Topping this list is the physical development of our players. In order to compete for championships in college athletics today, we must have a superior conditioned, physically strong, and mentally tough team. When your support allows us to purchase needed athletic training and strength and conditioning equipment, you are contributing to the overall success of the entire athletic program.
With donor support, the basketball programs were able to purchase a Shoot-A-Way machine, giving our players a more effective and efficient means of shooting practice. The immediate and profound impact on our shooting percentage resulted in substantial increases for the men and women. Both teams qualified for the NCAA tournament this year.
Multiple teams have trained and competed far beyond the Springfield College campus, in California, Texas, Iowa, Florida, South Carolina, Maryland, Virginia, England and Russia, and against some of the best national and international competition. Travel like this allows our student-athletes to experience life outside of our region and country and gives them perspective, something that is crucial as our experiences become increasingly more global. Beyond travel, donor support has provided new hitting cages for the annex; athletic training equipment such as an AED and game-ready control unit; field sled and headphones for football; team shelter benches for soccer; pole vault pits; a wrestling mat; and a state-of-the-art Daktronics matrix scoreboard for swimming and diving. All of these assist with our recruiting efforts and enhance the student and fan experience.
We have expanded travel rosters so that additional players, student athletic trainers, strength and conditioning coaches, sports communication staff and student broadcasters have the opportunity to experience post-season excitement. Your gifts significantly impact student-athletes, students, and fans and will do so into the future. So, on behalf of the student-athletes, coaches, and staff of Springfield College Athletics, I would like to express our gratitude.
