In celebration of the 50th Anniversary of Women’s Varsity Athletics at Springfield College, President Mary-Beth Cooper and her husband, Dave, have issued “A Team of Their Own Challenge.” Alumni and family members of all women’s varsity athletics teams have the opportunity to work together to show their Springfield College pride and help their team win a share of the prize pool.
“Dave and I are so honored to take part in this celebration of women’s athletics,” says Cooper. “In our short time here at Springfield College, we have already met both the pioneers on the first women’s varsity teams as well as many of our current student-athletes, and we felt compelled to make a meaningful contribution to this important milestone. We hope our gift will inspire others to join us in recognizing the lasting legacy of our women’s athletic programs.”
This challenge is all about participation, and now you have the opportunity as alumni and families of current student-athletes to support your team and encourage others to make a gift today. Cathie Schweitzer, director of athletics, explained that the winning teams will have the highest percentage of contributing alumnae and parents during the challenge period.
“I can think of no better way to celebrate the 50th Anniversary of Women’s Varsity Athletics at Springfield College than to recognize both the student-athlete of yesterday and today,” says Schweitzer. “This challenge honors these amazing women who exemplify all that is Springfield College. I hope others join the Cooper family in recognizing the lasting legacy these women have and will continue to make.”
Through the generous support of former student-athletes and families, this challenge will have a positive impact on the experience of all current student-athletes.
Your support is extremely important, so make your gift now by returning the enclosed envelop or visiting us online. All gifts made between July 1, 2013, and April 30 will count towards the challenge. Results will be announced at the Athletics Awards Celebration on Tue., May 6.
