CELEBRATING 50 YEARS OF WOMEN'S VARSITY ATHLETICS AT SPRINGFIELD COLLEGE

|PRESIDENT COOPER WELCOMES NEW STUDENTS|
The Springfield College community celebrated the opening of the 2013-2014 academic year on Friday, Aug. 30, during New Student Assembly at Blake Arena. This year's assembly was led by new Springfield College President Mary-Beth Cooper, PhD, DM. As part of the assembly, students and their families were welcomed to campus by Cooper and other members of the campus community. At the conclusion of the ceremony, new students joined their classmates and new student orientation leaders to begin familiarizing themselves with the College, its traditions, and aspects of campus life. |SCHOOL OF SOCIAL WORK RECEIVES REACCREDITATION BY COUNCIL ON SOCIAL WORK EDUCATION|
The Springfield College School of Social Work, which has been continuously accredited by the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE) since 1989, has been granted full national reaccreditation from the CSWE for the next eight years with no conditions. Read more.
THE WILLIAM SIMPSON FINE ART SERIES OF VISUAL AND PERFORMING ARTS PROGRAMS
The new season of the William Simpson Fine Arts Series at Springfield College is comprised of work from artists and performers from both inside and outside the Springfield College community and includes dance performances, theater presentations, art exhibitions, thought-provoking film, and concerts. Programs are open to the public and most events are free of charge. Read more.
|COLLEGE HOSTS SUMMER ATHLETIC TRAINING WORKSHOP|
Springfield College recently hosted its 20th annual Athletic Training Student Workshop for high school students interested in careers in athletic training and sports medicine. High school students from throughout the country attended the workshop, which focused on anatomy, injury prevention, and care of common lower extremity athletic injuries through lectures, demonstrations, and practice sessions about athletic injury prevention and maintenance. BRIAN MAGOFFIN NAMED DIRECTOR OF SPORTS COMMUNICATIONS
Brian Magoffin '05 has been named the director of sports communications. Magoffin is responsible for all aspects of media and sports information relating to the 26 intercollegiate men's and women's sports teams at the College. A member of the athletics staff at Springfield College since 2007, Magoffin served as the assistant director of sports communications until being promoted to interim director in July 2012. Read more.
A TRIP OF A LIFETIME: INSIDE THE WORLD UNIVERSITY GAMES
For two weeks in July, 17 members of the Springfield College community represented Team USA when the men's volleyball program competed at the 2013 World University Games in Kazan, Russia. Fresh off its second-straight NCAA Division III National Championship, members of the Pride changed their maroon and white uniforms for the red, white, and blue as they competed against Australia, Estonia, Belarus, Russia, Korea, Hong Kong, China, Chile, and Macau on the international stage. WOMEN'S VOLLEYBALL GARNERS AVCA'S TEAM ACADEMIC AWARD
The women's volleyball team was one of 93 programs in Division III to be recognized with the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Team Academic Award. The award recognizes programs that have maintained at least a 3.30 cumulative GPA on a 4.0 scale or a 4.10 GPA on a 5.0 scale. The Pride opens up the 2013 season on Sept. 6 when it kicks off the Springfield College Invitational against Simmons at 5 p.m. Read more.
PRESEASON ALL-AMERICA RECOGNITIONS CONTINUE TO ROLL IN FOR NACEWICZ
Coming off a record-setting year, junior Max Nacewicz has received plenty of early-season recognition from national sources who have deemed him a preseason All-American selection. Several weeks ago, the Sandy Hook, Conn., native was chosen as one of three defensive ends on the Beyond Sports Network (BSN) All-America Third Team. Read more.
