Class of 1964 - October 2013
On behalf of your 50th Reunion planning team, I am pleased to update you on the status of plans for our 50th Reunion Weekend at the College campus on June 5th through 8th, 2014. It should be an exciting and fun-filled weekend. I’m looking forward to it, and hope to see you all there.
As you know from Herb’s letter last month, your 50th Reunion planning team is in the process of developing a schedule of activities that will provide opportunities for you to reconnect with the College, reminisce with old friends and just plain have fun with fellow classmates. In addition to the usual college reunion weekend events, we are planning special activities you won’t want to miss relating to Rev. Martin Luther King’s Commencement address to our class, a golf outing for those who play golf (spouses are welcome to play), special campus and museum tours, and a guest speaker at our class dinner Saturday night. Also, you will have an opportunity to meet the College’s new President, Mary-Beth Cooper, and hear about her views of the college and outlook for the College’s future. She is looking forward to meeting as many of you as possible and listening to your input and ideas related to the College.
If you haven’t been to the College for a while, when you arrive you will be excited and proud of how the campus has changed with the construction of new, state-of-the-art buildings and facilities and other improvements made in the past few years. As you walk around campus you will see that many of our College’s traditions and the Spirit, Mind and Body culture are alive and well. You will especially want to visit the Stitzer YMCA Center and YMCA Hall of Fame in the renovated Judd Gym and the new SC museum in the old McCurdy natatorium, the new Wellness Center and Sports Training Complex, Stagg Field, the Irv Schmid Sports Complex and the Richard B. Flynn Campus Union.
We know that many of you have already marked your calendar to attend all or at least part of our 50th Reunion activities. But if you haven’t already done so, you can help us out by letting us know your plans and sharing ideas you may have to make our reunion really special by completing and sending in the enclosed “pre-response” form soon. We appreciate your help and hope that you will join us for at least part of our 50th Reunion celebration.
Our 50th Reunion headquarters will be at the Marriott hotel in downtown Springfield. A block of rooms has been reserved at $119.00/night +tax. Reservations need to be made before May 16th to receive the group rate. We would like to see as many classmates as possible stay at our 50th Reunion Headquarters to facilitate meeting opportunities, so please contact the Marriott at 1-800-228-9290 or 413-781-7111 and make your reservations soon.
Best regards on behalf of the Class of '64 Reunion Committee,
