Jake Armstrong Prayer - Offered at the 50th Reunion Dinner
Let us bow our heads.
It is through the blessings of God that we are gathered here tonight to celebrate the legacy each of you have permanently created through dedication, hard work, and service to humanity.
We celebrate the fact that we are here in mind, body, and spirit. We celebrate and honor our classmates who are here in spirit. Let us feel their presence with us during and after this reunion celebration of life and love.
It has been 50 years, half of a century, that we walked across the stage, in the field house to receive our degree from Dr. Glenn Olds. It was with distinction that some had the academic honors of summa cum laude, magna cum laude. Joe Hanlin and I were saying thank you Lord. Regardless of that fact, we as Springfield College graduates embarked on our life’s journey with youthful pride, energy, and idealism to fulfill our Divine Plan.
Let us pause and be thankful for the positive memories and experiences gained while attending Springfield College.
We are thankful for the instruction, challenges, and support given by our professors.
- Thankful for establishing lifelong relationships and friendships
- Thankful for the memories of our first steps on Senior Walk
- Thankful for preparing us for the real world exposure through the freshman-sophomore rope pull experience. As freshman we were naïve and trusting that hard work and strength would prevail. I am sure you will recall that the sophomores had picked relatively flat land, dug trenches supported with plywood boards for bracing themselves. We as freshmen were placed on a sandy hill, making it almost impossible for the first in line to reach the rope, let alone pull.
- Let us be thankful there was no YouTube, Twitter, or Facebook available for our XXX rated swimming classes.
I am sure that we have more positive memories for which we are thankful. Dr. Weckwerth stated many times “man is the sum total of his/her experiences.”
As a class, our collective experiences have influenced and made an indelible impact upon thousands of lives. This is our contribution to humanity and fulfilling our divine plan. We are thankful for Divine Wisdom and Guidance in all of our past endeavors and ask for continued knowledge wisdom and understanding in our future experiences and activities.
We are not perfect. If some of our past experiences caused harm or discord, let us ask for forgiveness, and forgive ourselves. Let us visualize and enfold all whom we have harmed with Love as well as loving ourselves. The power to love is the greatest power God has given us. As we continue on this marvelous journey called life, may we let the light of love within radiate out to everyone we encounter.
I ask that the food prepared be blessed as well as those who prepared it for us.
As I conclude this invocation, I ask that that God’s Light enfold our Sprit, Mind, and Body, as well as our loved ones, with perfect Health, Peace, Prosperity, and Love.
