Business Management Majors and MBA Students Participate in Staged Stock Market Event
Springfield College Business Management and Master of Business Administration (MBA) students participated in the Junior Achievement (JA) of Western Massachusetts, Inc., annual Stock Investing Competition on Oct. 27, at Springfield Technical Community College. The event simulated a stock market atmosphere where students received tips, news that impacted the market, and made decisions to buy or sell stocks.
The Springfield College students were split in to groups of four. Each group received $1,000,000 fictitious dollars to invest in 50 different stocks, with a new trading day starting every 60 seconds. The teams competed with other students from throughout the region to see who could accumulate the largest net-worth portfolio.
The MBA students took first place at the event. Members of that team were Maria Puppolo, Emily Barnaby, Sarah Buck, Emily DeSack, and Su Zheng. The undergraduate Business Management students took fifth place. Representing Springfield College from that team were Chris Pratt, TJ Adams, Byran Hyatt, Jae Tracey, Tom McKinnon, Kevin Percy, Emily Doucette, Kasey Shields, and Joe Carlson.
